Question:
Can you advise as to what the correct CPT charging would be for 4D CT angiography?

I understand the charging for 3D CT angiography for S&I is 76376 and 76377 as to whether this was reviewed on an independent workstation. I cannot find any information concerning 4D CT charging.

Answer:
There are currently no codes for 4D CT imaging of any type. Current codes for CTA require image post-processing of the acquired angiographic data to submit a CTA code, so it would be incorrect to also report code 76376 or 76377 in addition to the CTA code.

Since 2001 when CTA codes were released, the AMA has stated: “The key distinction between CTA and CT is that CTA includes reconstruction post-processing of angiographic images and interpretation. If reconstruction postprocessing is not done, it is not a CTA study.”

Per CPT instructions/parenthetical notes, codes for 3D post-processing are never to be reported with CTA codes.
