by Darla Branda, MA, RHIA

Lifelong learning is a lot like gardening; it takes time, commitment, patience, and money. Earning a college degree can help you blossom into your full potential. Students are often motivated to earn a degree for career advancement, reach a personal goal, or set a good example for their children. Due to the recent pandemic, more and more students are choosing a health profession career path to help make a difference in the world.

Earning a college degree is just the beginning of the learning journey. Continuing education through annual workforce training is vital for staying current in the healthcare professions. Regulations, professional practices, and technology are continually changing. To remain relevant in our field, we must seek out opportunities for professional growth and development. Here are a few ideas for continuing down your learning path:

3 Ways You Can Cultivate Your Career

1. Attend a webinar on current issues such as telehealth and COVID-19
2. Enroll in a coding course to supplement your current knowledge or prepare for your next challenge
3. Contribute to your profession by sharing what you know, writie an article or present at a conference

Becoming your best self is like a flower that has bloomed, the more it grows, the more inspiring it becomes. Then, before you know it, others are taking notice and want to know your gardening secrets. Keep learning and flourishing!
