Practical Coding Experience: Outpatient

Practical, hands-on experience assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT procedure codes to a wide range of outpatient health records: physician-based, ambulatory, clinics, emergency room, and surgical day care. The outpatient course includes 154 case studies.

Practical Coding Experience: Inpatient 1

Provides hands-on coding practice coupled with detailed guidance on correct code assignment. Using Libman Education’s proprietary Coding Workspace™ format, learners sharpen their coding skills on real-world inpatient cases appropriate for the newer inpatient coder. Coding Workspace™ will make you truly workforce-ready!

Practical Coding Experience: Inpatient 1 provides a selection of 20 cases appropriate for someone new to inpatient coding or someone preparing for a coding credential exam.

Practical Coding Experience: Outpatient and Practical Coding Experience: Inpatient 1 may be purchased separately.  Purchase them together and save!

Inpatient coders require foundational knowledge in ICD-10-CM coding of diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS coding of hospital inpatient procedures. Course work in these topics is essential prior to commencing Practical Coding Experience: Inpatient.

ICD-10-CM: Diagnosis Coding
Thorough and in-depth command of ICD-10-CM coding is essential for anyone seeking a position as a medical record coder. ICD-10-CM: Diagnosis Coding is a comprehensive program on the structure, function, and application of ICD-10-CM organized by body system.

ICD-10-PCS: Medical and Surgical Coding
Introduction to the structure and design of the ICD-10-PCS system and coding guidelines. Course provides education on assigning codes within the medical and surgical section of ICD-10-PCS, with complete education on the 31 root operations used in the coding process.

ICD-10-PCS: Med/Surg-related and Ancillary
How to code procedures in the Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary sections of ICD-10-PCS, including obstetrics, imaging, mental health, and more.

The level of effort to complete this course bundle, start to finish, is equivalent to 12 CEUs and should take you approximately 12-36 hours to complete. Remember: You have access to the course materials for the full 20-week enrollment period and we encourage you to re-review any materials that are helpful to you.

Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of each course in the bundle, student will be able to download a Libman Education Certificate of Completion. The combined Certificates of Completion for the entire bundle will total 12 CEUs.

Angela Lima applies a hands-on approach to her role as the Director of Education for Libman Education. Whether overseeing the work of subject matter experts including nationally recognized coding authorities; challenging instructional designers to deliver content in a way that is both engaging and memorable; or tapping her 25 years’ experience in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room coding to write coder-friendly courses herself, Angela is responsible for ensuring that our training is accurate, easily accessible, and challenging.

Angela enjoys working individually with current students to answer their questions regarding course content and with prospective students to identify the appropriate curriculum to support their career objectives. She holds the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Ruth has a master’s degree in career and technical education from the University of Wisconsin—Stout, a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management from Southern Illinois University, and an associate of applied science in medical records from the College of Lake County. Ruth brings decades of accredited HIM experience to her over 10-year-long teaching role in an associate degree program. She has previously worked in acute care as a manager of coding and compliance, been the assistant director of an HIM department, and held many other roles in HIM.
