  • Each root operation is defined and the key distinguishing feature called out.
  • Examples of each root operation are provided.
  • Similar root operations are grouped together so that the subtle differences are more easily understood.

Each ICD-10-PCS Root Operation flash card presents a different group of root operations. The set includes:

  • Root operations that take out some or all of a body part
  • Root operations that take out solids/fluids/gases from a body part
  • Root operations involving cutting or separation only
  • Root operations that put in/put back or move some/all of a body part
  • Root operations that alter the diameter/route of a tubular body part

“Thank you so much for the great cards, they are perfect.”

“I took them to a conference in Indianapolis and everyone ask were we got them, so I hope you have many orders. They are the best cards ever and I have gotten a lot out of them.”

“A couple of my coders went to last week’s coding seminar and used their flash cards. They said they really worked well, better than the smaller cards available from others. I’d like to see about purchasing some more …” — Director, Health Information Management

“There are 31 root operations in the medical and surgical section. By ‘chunking” these into nine groups with similar attributes, it so much easier to learn. I would recommend these cards to anyone ready to attempt ICD-10-PCS.“

“I had an extra set of flash cards from Libman Education and gave a set to my daughter to use. She took them to her coding class and some of the students and the teacher loved them. This is a great tool to help them succeed in learning ICD10.”

“Since I am not affiliated with an employer group to absorb the cost of ICD10 training, Libman Education has been my backbone. These flash cards clearly identified key terms needed to keep me above water. Most people show pictures of kids and grandkids: I have the flashcards as a slide photo deck. These have been my compass to keep me on track. Thank you!”

“The flashcards have been a tremendous help in differentiating between the different procedures. It gives my students a better understanding of what is being reported in the record! Wonderful tool not only for ICD10, but CPT!”

“My peers at work can’t say enough about the flash cards. And I can’t say enough about Libman Education!”

“I have my flash cards and I find them to be a worthy tool. The transition to ICD-10 will be a challenge so anything that eases the burden is appreciated.”

“These cards are great!!!” — Tiffany W.
