Opelousas General Health System Prepares Coders for ICD-10 Deadline with Online Readiness Course

Special course extension allows coders to work around busy schedule

BEDFORD MASSACHUSETTS August 28, 2013 – Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) – a two campus, full service medical center in Opelousas, LA and the most comprehensive community health care facility in the area – has begun preparing its medical coders for next year’s ICD-10 deadline with the readiness course Anatomy & Physiology for Coders.

The course, which has become increasingly popular among hospitals, is presented in an online format that allows medical coders to work at their own pace and around their busy schedules. Training flexibility is further enhanced by a special extended enrollment course version.

“The many tasks competing for our medical coders’ time require that we use a reputable ICD-10 course that has online flexibility,” said Erika Hardy, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, Assistant Director HIS at OGHS. “This is why we chose Anatomy & Physiology for Coders: our coders can accommodate their busy schedule, and they have a 20-week course extension that enables them to pace themselves. We look forward to making a smooth ICD-10 transition.”

Opelousas General Health System is a 245-bed full service acute care health system. As the area’s most comprehensive community health care facility, it offers a wide range of medical specialties and state-of-the-art technology.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders – written by coders, for coders – prepares medical coding professionals for the anatomy-intensive requirements of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding. In this 12-week curriculum, students get a comprehensive and complete review of major body systems. In addition, students get immediate knowledge to increase ICD-9 and CPT coding proficiency.

Those who take Anatomy & Physiology for Coders are eligible for 24 AHIMA CEUs , 6 AAPC CEUs and 23 RCCB CEUs.
