BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTSAugust 7, 2019 – Libman Education has been designated an authorized re-seller for CareerStep’s Fundamentals of Inpatient Auditing — a program designed to help medical coders advance their careers while addressing industry demand for skilled auditors in the inpatient setting.

Fundamentals of Inpatient Auditing builds on the coder’s current command of inpatient coding to quickly gain the knowledge and skills needed to assume responsibilities as an inpatient auditor.

Written in collaboration with major medical employers, Fundamentals of Inpatient Auditing builds on the individual student’s experience as an inpatient coder to help advance their career in this growing area.

“Auditing is one of the top five skills recommended by AHIMA for HIM professionals, and becoming an inpatient auditor is an excellent next career step for inpatient coders,” said Derris T. Moore, General Manager & Senior Vice President of E-Learning at CareerStep. “We welcome this reseller relationship with Libman Education as an opportunity to marry our content with Libman Education’s considerable reach among currently employed coders to provide critical training necessary for these coders’ career advancement.”

How long is the inpatient auditor course? Once you purchase the course are you given a timeline to finish the course?

    • Libman Education - August 12, 2019 at 7:32 pm

      Hi Charlotte,
The time to complete the program can vary, depending on several factors (a student’s schedule, etc.). It might take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. While those who take the program are required to complete it within six months, extensions can be purchased directly from CareerStep.

I am thinking about advancing my CCS and was looking at going the CDI route. I would like to learn how the coding auditor might be an alternative path for me and which will be more sought after.

David – Thank you for your note.

The CDI Essential Skills program (see: is a great introduction to CDI for current coders. It builds on your current indepth knowledge of coding requirements to position you for a CDI role. While many hospitals require their CDI have a clinical background, an increasing number are seeing an advantage of an integrated nurse/coder team to address documentation issues.
