“Coders with detailed knowledge of coding and billing of anesthesia services are valued team members.”

BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTSJune 9, 2022 – Libman Education has released a new online course that teaches medical coders proper anesthesia coding: CPT®: Essentials of Anesthesiology Coding and Billing, by Marcy Garuccio, ACS-AN, CANPC, CPMA, CPC, SME, AAPC Fellow, a nationally recognized authority on coding of anesthesia services. Marcy’s long career combines a strong foundation in anesthesiology practice management with medical coding and billing expertise.

“Anesthesia is such a unique coding and billing field. It utilizes time and multiple components to format a charge for services rendered. Coding can be confusing because many technical components of surgery and procedures affect proper code selection,” said Marcy Garuccio, author of CPT®: Essentials of Anesthesiology Coding and Billing. “This course gives anesthesia coders the confidence to code all the services their practitioners provide; it removes the mystery of complex cases!”

CPT®: Essentials of Anesthesiology Coding and Billing bridges the gap between coding and billing for commonly occurring anesthesia services. The online, self-paced course addresses the dual challenge of arriving at the right American Society of Anesthesiologists anesthesia code and ‘cross walking’ from the ASA code to the correct CPT code. Coders need both to get anesthesia coding right.

The course provides:

  • Mastering the basics of anesthesia coding and billing
  • Real-world coding examples
  • Hands-on, step-by-step practice in coding anesthesia services
  • Assessments to ensure mastery of the material

“We are so pleased to be able to offer CPT®: Essentials of Anesthesiology Coding and Billing. This new course addresses a very specific set of coding challenges and fills a critical gap in the education market,” announced Susan Pepple, President of Libman Education. “Marcy pulls together a coder’s command of the ASA coding system with detailed knowledge of CPT coding, plus an understanding of current surgical and procedural methods to ensure anesthesia coding that is accurate and complete. Coders with detailed knowledge of coding and billing of anesthesia services are valued team members.”
